Purpose of this event: Inside Out 2 is a Disney movie about a teen dealing with anxiety. Our purpose is to use the platform of the movie to engage in a discussion with teens about anxiety, provide management strategies and resources, and other helpful information.

Our nonprofit 501c3, But First, YOU, Foundation, Self-Care Workshops allows ALL children ages 8 – 16 years old an opportunity to learn about self-care through various fun activities. Our activities cover topics such as self-esteem, relationships with self, family, and friends, adapting to “self” changes, managing emotions, making healthy choices, being physically healthy, and trying new things.

Self-care can help kids of all ages become more thoughtful and aware of their physical and emotional needs. It can also prepare them to effectively handle future stressors. Even small acts of self-care can decrease stress, improve relationships, and promote wellness of the body and mind.

When children are taught about self-care at a young age, it teaches them to prioritize their mental and physical health, now, and as they age. Teaching children healthy habits of caring for themselves can help them learn how to deal with stressors in the future and reduces their risk of developing mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.

And let’s be honest, adults struggle with self-care, so normalizing self-care at a young age can help increase healthy self-care habits as an adult.

Each workshop is led by Dr. Deanna Granger, Medical Family Therapist.
